Everyone always dreams about the day that their prince will get down on one knee and ask the four magic words they have been dying to hear. These words are of course, "Will you Marry Me?" I had been dating Will, my boyfriend at that time, for almost 4 years. I moved across the state to be with him since we were long distance for majority of our relationship. I figured that me uprooting my life and moving three hours away to teach in a school district that I never stepped foot in before would solidify his decision. Little did I know he saved for almost a year and bought the ring months before he popped the question.
Will asked me to go on an adventure to Arizona with him to watch the LSU championship game. I am not a huge sports fan, but am Will's biggest fan so I decided to drive 23 hours to see this game for him. Little did I know he had a plan up his sleeve. He told me that once we got to our hotel, we would get ready, and we would drive another 3 hours to The Grand Canyon. He told me to take my time getting ready and to even do a full face of makeup which I thought was sweet, but strange. The entire drive he was anxious about us missing the beautiful sunset and that we might not get a good picture. I am usually the one who is nervous so I thought it was funny to calm him down.
When he finally got to the Grand Canyon, it was FREEZING. It was about 23 degrees, if I remember correctly. I was complaining that I should have brought a beanie to wear as my ears were cold and it was super windy. There was a Grand Canyon store and I told him I was going to go get a beanie and he was furious. He kept telling me we did not have time for this as the sun was setting. I brushed him off and went to look anyways. There were no beanies in the store, so Will grabbed my hand and started dragging me pretty much to The Grand Canyon so we could get a picture with the sun setting. Again I was very relaxed and told him it would be alright. He immediately started looking for a "woman" to take our picture. I told him to get a guy to take it and that I did not care if it was a woman or not. He made sure to get a woman and now I see why. We took one picture and I figured that was good enough for him. Then he yelled out, "One more!" I looked up apologetically at the woman who had kids running around. Then when I looked back I saw Will on the ground down on one knee. I was SHOCKED. I did not see it coming!
He said, "We have been together 4 years now. How about we make that a lifetime? Will you marry me?" Of course I said YES! In that instant I lost all feeling of the freezing cold temperature around me as I became so giddy and warm inside. I could not stop smiling and taking selfies with my ring in it. The best memory I have is that there was NO service at all so for the first two hours of being engaged, only we knew. We did not have the notifications to interrupt the moment. It was such a sweet ending to an amazing day. We ended it eating Canes in bed. Now that, I can look forward to for the rest of my life!
Of course the first thing I did was think of a hashtag...JK! I created our wedding hashtag long before he knelt down on one knee. I chose a sophisticated and classy one and a punny one. I will let you figure out which one is which.
