Our MiniMoon: Galveston, TX

Hey y'all! So Will and I definitely did not think wedding planning could possibly be so expensive. We had help from our parents, but still had to pay a huge chunk of the wedding out of pocket while also trying to survive so we could only afford to pay a little bit each month. As our wedding got closer, we realized we could not afford a honeymoon and decided we would save and go at a later date so we could definitely enjoy it. We decided to just do a small weekend trip to Galveston, Texas instead. I highly recommend going on a minimoon and saving for a big trip later on. I am so glad that we decided to go this route. This page is going to be all about everything that we were able to do while on the trip. Enjoy!

Where We Stayed: Hotel Galvez & Spa

I wanted to start off this post with where we stayed as that is typically where most people start their vacation search. I looked at a few different locations but always came back to Hotel Galvez and Spa. It was breathtakingly beautiful on the outside and inside. They had a pool, hot tub, restaurant, and spa. Although we did not utilize everything that they had to offer, it was an amazing stay. I highly recommend staying at this location due to the amazing customer service, beautiful architecture, clean room, huge shower, and the location is perfect for being a tourist as it is close to everything worth traveling to.

Food

Next up is almost as important as where to stay in my personal opinion! Food is something that I always look forward to when visiting somewhere new. I looked at so many different amazing choices so it was hard to just choose a few as we were only there for a day and a half.

We decided to go to Katie's Seafood House on night one for dinner and it by far exceeded my expectations. The view was breathtaking and the food was mouthwatering. We sat on the porch and had a beautiful view of the lake. I am attaching a picture below of the menu as well as what we both chose. We told them that we just got married and they gave us a free dessert. Overall, the experience was amazing. Definitely my favorite from the trip. http://katiesseafoodhouse.com/

For breakfast we decided to go to the Tremont Cafe as it was one of the places I wanted to visit before arriving. It is actually a hotel that has a cafe inside. I believe it was too expensive for us to stay in, so we just visited and enjoyed the cute cafe environment.   https://www.thetremonthouse.com/dining/tremont-cafe-galveston

For lunch, Will and I went to Millers Seawall Grill. It was a very relaxed environment with amazing brunch food. We had a small wait time, but we went and snapped a few photos by the beach in the mean time. Just like their menu states, "Enjoy the casual atmosphere and great views."  http://millersseawallgrill.com/

Activities

This section is all about things to do during the day! Just a reminder that we were only there for a minimoon so we did not get to experience everything that we wanted to. However we did cram as much as we could into our 2 day trip!

The one activity that was the most fun was pedaling on this cart with my hubby. It definitely tested our team work and gave us a workout, but it is definitely a must when visiting the area. We were cracking up laughing at ourselves the whole time. We stopped at The Spot, which by the name is obviously the spot to be. I didn't snap any pictures, but we both grabbed some ice cream and then we pedaled back to Island Bike Company where we rented from. https://www.islandbicyclecompany.com/

If we had more time, I would recommend going to The Spot for dinner and drinks as it turns into a bar area if I understand correctly. It is a few fun restaurants and bars combined into one spot. Even if you are in a rush like us at least stop by and grab a quick snack!  http://thespot.islandfamous.com/

The Second thing that you need to do when visiting, is take a day trip to the Pier! Will and I paid for a day ride pass and it was $20 each. In my opinion even if you aren't there for long like us (we visited on our way out of town) the day pass is worth it. There are tons of rides, carnival food, souvenir shops, and more. It is like a carnival that never ends! It was so much fun being kids as newly weds together. The Ferris wheel was definitely my favorite part as you got to see a beautiful view of the water.

If you have more time, I definitely recommend simply walking a long the beautiful beach. It sounds simple, but the view is miraculous! Walking along the beach at sun set holding hands was the perfect end to our day.

One of the coolest things that we did, that you actually have to do regardless, is to ride the ferry. Will and I got out of our cars and walked around the ferry to take in the view. Something about seeing the island of Galveston slowly come into view and get closer is so cool. I am a girl who loves blue, and let me tell you it was just beautiful. If we had more time I would have gone it more times just for fun instead of using it to get to and from the island.
